Andy Ciofalo completed a multidisciplinary project at the Faculty of Archaeology, Leiden University. He uses a foodways approach to archaeological investigation in the Greater Caribbean. Applying cutting-edge paleoethnobotanical research methodologies he has revealed numerous lost and forgotten life-ways. This developed a new narrative focused on botanical culinary practices in the research area. Reconstructing how Indigenous Caribbean Peoples lived was an effort to valorize their heritage. The more refined descriptions of past life-ways offer a tantalizing story explaining how Caribbean lives were and are diverse, intensive, and thriving.
